Salma Hammad


With more than ten years’ experience working as legal counsel with financial institutions, Salma has developed a wide range of expertise in legal aspects of banking and financial systems, empowering her as an effective and valuable member of the firm’s legal team. Salma’s proven track record in managing complex tasks, and prioritizing issues across disciplines and functions, stems from strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivities that have helped her leverage legal experience in the service of attaining business objectives—across multifaceted organizational contexts. These skills were critical in helping her, as the first female member of Kuwait Finance House’s Legal Department, to meet the requirements of her last position there, as Deputy General Counsel (International Contracts and Transactions); and they continue to inform her present international practice of working with various entities across the Gulf region as well as in the wider Middle East.

Salma’s accomplishments include the following:

  • Participating in cross-functional finance teams negotiating facilities for corporate clients
  • Supporting debt-restructuring teams with legal advice and document review
  • Supporting direct investment sector in mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures
  • Advising on commercial transactions with clients, vendors, suppliers, etc.
  • Standardizing select bank documents, for systematic implementation and faster service delivery
  • Collaborating as corporate liaison with global law firms and international consultants
  • Overseeing special internal and government investigations
  • Initiating systematic methodology for group reporting
  • Overseeing bank, and group-wide, implementation of Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), as Steering Committee Member, in cross-functional bank team
  • Collaborating in bank-wide review and upgrade of policies, procedures and compliance manuals (with global consultants)
  • Serving as board member to aircraft leasing fund
